Hollywood retirement home blaze injures 3

A blaze broke out at a Hollywood retirement home early this morning, forcing some 20 residents to evacuate for hours and six residents to be relocated to other rooms. The fire started at Nova Palms Retirement Residence at 1600 Taft Street, where one resident lit a cigarette in his room and the chair he was sitting on caught fire. The fire was contained within that room, but rooms nearby were damaged from the smoke. Three residents were taken to the hospital, two with smoke inhalation and the other with third-degree burns to his hands. [Miami Herald]
