The Breakers seeks a tax exemption

Following the refurbishment of the Breakers hotel in Palm Beach, it is
now seeking a tax break given for renovated historic buildings, which
would be worth an estimated $600,000 over ten years. The Breakers’
owners spent more than $13 million on the renovation, according to Palm
Beach County documents, but the county tax break must be first approved
by the town of Palm Beach. Most similar applications are for
single-family homes seeking far smaller tax breaks, but according to
Barbara Alterman, the county’s director of planning, zoning and
building, the county hasn’t rejected such an application in recent
memory. [Sun
