WTC steel for Miramar memorial

Miramar’s 9/11 memorial has received steel girders from the World Trade
Center debris. The 11-foot, 8,200-pound steel girders arrived in the city
yesterday to be placed in a lakeside memorial near City Hall. “To some
this might seem like a piece of rubble…to me it’s part of history,” said
Michael Yepez, a police officer in Miramar. “I feel I am being reunited
with them.” The donation of the girders was approved by the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey in January. The memorial, designed
by local architect Luis Sousa, is set for completion by Sept. 11, 2012. [Miami
