Attorneys question drywall settlement

Some South Florida attorneys are challenging a $54.5 million settlement
on Chinese drywall by Banner Supply, claiming that the company has been
less than forthcoming. “It’s difficult for any responsible attorney or
any homeowner to make an informed decision as to whether this is a good
or bad settlement in view of the lack of full disclosure and
transparency,” said Victor Diaz, a Miami Beach lawyer representing
hundreds of Miami drywall victims. The settlement, which covers 3,000
people in Florida, must be accepted by August, but Diaz said many
homeowners don’t know how much they would receive. Attorneys could get
as little as $5,000 for their roles. [Miami
