Construction jobs fell by 16,200 in August, down to a total of 336,100,
according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of U.S.
Department of Labor data. Fort Lauderdale saw the biggest drop, with a
six percent decrease in jobs. Palm Beach’s construction sector shed
1,000 jobs, or 4 percent, and Miami lost 300 jobs, or 1 percent of its
total. “The construction market is caught between increases in private
sector demand and even larger decreases in public sector construction
investments,” said Ken Simonson, chief economist for the association. [SFBJ]
