PB to review law that restricts splitting combined condo units

The Palm Beach Town Council is studying a proposal to change the law that restricts condominium owners who combine adjacent units from splitting them back into the original number of units.

According to the Palm Beach Daily News, the council will review the law, meant to limit population density and parking needs, at a meeting Wednesday.

The subject gained publicity when a West Palm Beach attorney wrote a letter to Zoning Administrator Paul Castro arguing that evolving circumstances should allow new buyers to separate the units. About 55 such cases involving 114 condo units have been brought to the Planning, Zoning and Building Department since 1996.

There are exceptions to the current law that owners can take advantage of if they meet certain density and parking requirements. [PBDN]
