Responding to outcry, Miami Springs reverses course on home inspection bill

The Miami Springs council reversed course and shot down a controversial re-occupancy bill that enraged the real estate community at a meeting earlier this week, the River Cities Gazette reported. The bill would have required an additional inspection process for buyers of single-family homes to list any building code violations that were easily observable. That comes on top of the already required occupancy certification process.

The council voted in favor of the proposal last month 4-1, but after community backlash voted against it 4-1 on Monday. “As I stated at the last meeting, I don’t find this inspection to have merit and it is extremely intrusive. Miami Springs should not be entering the business of doing inspections,” said Miami Springs Council member Dan Espino. “It would tie the hands of code compliance and could help blow up real estate deals.” [River City Gazette via Miami Herald]
