Former Plantation police officer sentenced for role in mortgage fraud scheme

Former Plantation police officer Joseph Guaracino has been sentenced to 43 months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud in a mortgage fraud scheme, according to United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Wifredo Ferrer. His sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $2.97 million in mandatory restitution to financial institutions. Guaracino pleaded guilty to a one count information in November 2011 after his trial resulted in a mistrial. — Alexander Britell
