Maurice Fatio-designed home in Palm Beach approved for demolition

Despite opposition from Bob Vila, chairman of the Palm Beach Architectural Commission, a proposal to raze the Maurice Fatio-designed home at 320 Island Road has been approved, the Palm Beach Daily News reported. The proposal includes a cottage located at 310 Island Road, which will be demolished as well. “We were making a statement,” Vila said. “It’s a relatively good home, a good property with good detailing.” The home, which was built in 1937, “was not a property worth saving,” according to Thomas Kirchhoff, architect for the property’s new owner. The home recently was purchased for $9.7 million. [Palm Beach Daily News]
