Miami loan officer pleads guilty for role in mortgage fraud scheme

A Miami loan officer has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud for his role in a mortgage scheme that caused more than $6.5 million in losses, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Wifredo Ferrer announced. Alejandro Curbelo, 32, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard; he was indicted in Jan. 24. From 2006 to 2008, Curbelo was employed as a loan officer for Great Country Mortgage Bankers, assisting unqualified buyers to obtain mortgage loans and submitting false and fraudulent FHA mortgage loan applications on their behalf. — Alexander Britell
