Genting offered to purchase Miami-Dade County school properties: report

Genting, which is planning a large-scale casino resort in Miami if it can get legislative approval, has reportedly made an offer to buy eight sites from the Miami-Dade County School District in the Omni area, Miami Today reported. The offer, made through a Genting affiliate, involves a total of 10.5 acres near the Omni mall, which Omni now owns as well. The offer came in December, and the postponement of resolution on the casino issue in Florida’s legislature may have changed Genting’s mind. “We have a structured process for selling property,” said Jaime Torrens, chief facilities officer for the district. “There’s no need for urgency.” [Miami Today]
