Coconut Grove plans $6 million project to renovate business district streetscape

Coconut Grove is set to embark on a $6 million plan to widen sidewalks, install new lighting and replace trees in the area’s central business district, the Miami Herald reported. Work will begin on the Florida Avenue portion of the project late next month, although some Grove residents are less than supportive of the plan. The tree removal comes in part due to at least 10 trees on Commodore Plaza that pose a safety risk, according to Lisa Hammer, a local horticulturist who completed an evaluation of the area.
