June 28, 2012 09:45AM

Florida-based property insurers have seen an increase in net income, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Insurers in the Sunshine State saw $78.7 million in net income in the first quarter of 2012, a 40 percent increase compared to the same period in 2011. “The numbers often look good for an individual year — or years — without a hurricane,” said Lynne McChristian, a spokesperson for the Insurance Information Institute. “Good years help build the resources to handle big losses.” [Sun Sentinel]
