Adrienne Arsht Center repairs to cost county more than $2.7 million

Damage caused to the the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts by a burst water pipe will cost Miami-Dade County at least $2.7 million, according to a recent memo from Mayor Carlos Gimenez cited by the Miami New Times.  While the county-owned building’s repairs will be partially covered by its insurer, the city is still liable for a large portion of the bill. The city’s funding of the repairs, following layoffs and extensive cuts to employee benefits, has met some opposition. The $473 million performing arts center opened in 2006, nearly two years behind schedule and more than $218 million over budget. [Miami New Times]
