U.S. home sales prices rise 6.3 percent: report

The median sales price of homes in the United States rose 6.3 percent in August compared to the same period in 2011, according to a new national report from RE/MAX. It was the seventh straight month in which U.S. home prices have shown a year-over-year increase, while home sales transactions saw an 8.5 percent increase in activity in the same period, the 14th-straight month of improved sales volume. “As we move from summer to fall, it’s very encouraging that this year’s home selling season began strong and finished even stronger,” said Margaret Kelly, CEO at RE/MAX. “Nearly every month in 2012 experienced increased sales and prices over 2011, showing that we’ve definitely passed the bottom and we’re looking forward to 2013 being an even better year.” — Alexander Britell
