Swedish developer Par Sanda plans to expand and redevelop the 17-property motel-to-hotel North Beach Village Resort in Fort Lauderdale.

North Beach Village Hotel Properties is converting the Martindale, Sandy Shores and Seaside motels on Bayshore Drive near Birch Road into one 100-room hotel with an on-site bar. Several new acquisitions in the portfolio are undergoing renovations and are expected to come online by February. The motel at 551 Breakers Avenue will be converted into the 12-room Village Hotel, which will also have a 200-seat restaurant and a top-floor event space for weddings and corporate meetings.

“It has good bones,” general manager Christine Sposa told the Sun-Sentinel of the 551 Breakers Avenue building.

The hotel operator bought the now-closed shuttered Ocean Tides Motel on Antioch Avenue and hasn’t decided how to redevelop it yet.

Of the existing hotels, Grand Palm Plaza on Rio Mar Street and the gay-friendly, former Orton Terrace are both slated to reopen next month after renovations. The latter will serve as an 18-room add-on to the Hotel Lush Royale.
