North Palm Beach attorney being probed over alleged false ads

A formal complaint was filed against a North Palm Beach attorney for allegedly sending false and misleading advertisements to homeowners across the country.

The Florida Bar on Wednesday filed the complaint with the state’s Supreme Court against Marc Hoffman of the Hoffman Law Group.

The mailers in question were sent to homeowners in 2012 and solicited them to join a “national lawsuit” against their banks as a way to reduce monthly mortgage payments, cut principal balances and seek compensation for damages. Hoffman is already under investigation by the Florida attorney general’s office after homeowners allegedly paid thousands to be involved in the advertised lawsuit.

In July 2013, New Mexico’s attorney general filed a cease and desist order against the mailers.

According to the Florida Bar, Hoffman’s mailers looked like legal documents and didn’t specify clearly enough that they were advertisements. [Palm Beach Post] — Claire Moses
