A new $121 million redevelopment plan proposed as part of the renovation of Miami Marine Stadium has the mayor worried that Virginia Key’s only point of access could become too congested and have a negative affect on the Village of Key Biscayne, on a neighboring island.

Key Biscayne’s new mayor, Mayra Peña Lindsay, supports the renovation of the stadium, but urged Miami City Commissioners not to rush into approving the latest plan, which would involve turning the site into a maritime complex with a 125,000-square-foot expo center, a commercial space, a dry-dock storage facility and a new marina, Miami Today reported. An integral part of the plan would be a commitment by the organizers of the annual boat show to hold the event at the stadium.

“I implore you not to decide this in a vacuum,” Lindsay said, according to Miami Today. She said the decision process should include both the City of Miami and the Village of Key Biscayne. [Miami Today]Heather Grossmann
