100 Montaditos to open Miami Lakes restaurant

Despite filing for bankruptcy in March, Spain’s 100 Montaditos will open a new store in Miami Lakes, the company announced on Wednesday. 

When it opens on Tuesday, the 1,300-square-foot restaurant will include a 490-square-foot patio and 50 seats. It’s located at 6843 Main Street, near Don Shula’s Hotel & Golf Resort.

In March, 100 Montaditos’ parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is currently pending. Existing South Florida locations in West Kendall, Midtown and Brickell, as well as Tampa, New York City and Washington, D.C., will remain open, according to a press release. The company’s Coral Gables location recently closed.

“It is with great pride that we announce the opening of our newest U.S. location and demonstrate our commitment to the U.S. market, our customers, and existing franchisees,” Ignacio Garcia Nieto, managing director, said in a statement. “We are confident that we will emergence from bankruptcy later this year and look forward to continue developing the Montaditos brand in the U.S.”

The restaurant chain was founded in Huelva, Spain in 2000. It operates 350 company-owned and franchised restaurants in Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, and the U.S. — Katherine Kallergis
