Former Ritz president leads new North Miami project

The former president of Ritz-Carlton is planning a new hotel and condominium project headed for North Miami.

Dubbed Apeiron at the Jockey Club, the project would be built within the 22-acre Jockey Club condo complex at 11111 Biscayne Boulevard.

The Next Miami reported that Apeiron Miami, the company that now owns the land where Apeiron would be built, filed project plans with Miami-Dade County on Tuesday.

The plans show a 40-story tower with 240 residential units and 90 hotel rooms, though the project’s website said the flagship tower would house only 120 residential units along with the 90 rooms.

Those units, which would be serviced, range in size from 1,500 square feet to more than 4,500 square feet. The complex would also house a five-acre health and wellness facility, outdoor pools and recreational facilities, according to the website.

Apeiron Miami paid $3.5 million to purchase the land last year, according to Miami-Dade property records. The sale included Jockey Club’s marina, which the company is marketing alongside its project as a “38-slip, mega-yacht, deep-water marina.”

Apeiron is led by Horst Schulze, the former COO and president of Ritz-Carlton, and the current chairman and CEO of the Capella Hotel Group, according to the project’s website. He is joined by Michael Bedner, chairman of hospitality design firm HBA International, and Muayad Abbas, founder of real estate consultancy firm Urbanis. [The Next Miami] — Sean Stewart-Muniz
