An explosion occurred Friday at the newly built Chateau Beach Residences condo tower in Sunny Isles Beach.

NBC 6 is reporting that there was a rooftop natural gas explosion, causing a shower of glass and debris to fall from the 32-story building. Fire and police units are on the scene.

The station is also reporting that there were multiple injures after the incident. Live footage from NBC 6 shows heavy damage to a room above the building’s penthouse.

WSVN reports that 34 people have been injured, and nine of those injured are in critical condition. However, the station reports that officials have since reduced the number of injured to seven. Two people are also reportedly trapped in an elevator in the building.

The condo tower was not occupied by residents, and construction crews were still finishing up work.

Chateau Beach Residences is located at 17475 Collins Avenue. It was developed by the Chateau Group, and units at the building began to close in August.
