South Miami Pharmacy has opened its second South Florida location and is rebranding as SMP Pharmacy Solutions, the national pharmacy chain announced on Monday.

SMP, which has an existing store at 6050 South Dixie Highway, opened a 6,500-square-foot facility at 7425 Southwest 42nd Street. The new space will have room for up to 24 employees, a spokesperson said. It will also have two practice areas: fertility and compounding divisions. The company’s other two practice areas are specialty drugs and retail.

The pharmacy’s first location in South Miami is a two-story, 5,600-square-foot store. Bardisa Enterprises LLC, led by SMP founder and president Armando Bardisa, owns the property, which was developed in 2010. It’s near the Shops at Sunset Place, which sold for $110 million to Federal Realty and local partners in October.

The LLC paid $1.8 million for the first pharmacy in 2007, according to county records.

An SMP affiliate paid $650,000 for the second location, a two-story building just south of Bird Road in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. It sits on a 7,500-square-foot lot.

The independent pharmacy chain was founded in 2003 and is in more than 31 states, according to a press release. – Katherine Kallergis
