Long-time owners of Pompano skating rink sell for $5M

Call it a thawing market: After owning their Pompano Beach ice skating rink for more than a decade, Hal and Paula Jacovitz just sold to a pair of Florida real estate investors for $5 million.

The 40,730-square-foot skating house is called the Glacier Ice and Snow Arena. It was built in 1981 and was formerly owned by the Sunshine State’s own ice hockey team, the Florida Panthers.

When the Jacovitzes purchased the rink in 2002 for $3.5 million, they opened it back up to the public and put in a series of capital improvements.

“I love doing this, and it shows,” Hal Jacovitz told the Sun Sentinel the year he bought the rink. “I like coming to work smiling.”

Besides the facility’s long-standing relationship with hockey, Glacier Ice and Snow also offers summer camp programs, figure skating lessons and its own skate shop.

Through a deed filed Friday, a Florida company called PMMA Investments purchased the property for about $122 per square foot. The company is managed by Marc Allegre and Patrice Minguez, the former owners of the Cellyne Paper Manufacturer company that was bought out by an Italian firm in 2012.

Olivier Hannoun and Gilles Dalco of Champagne & Parisi Real Estate represented the buyers for this deal.

No financing was recorded alongside the deal.
