The Landmark at Merrick Park in Coral Gables opened to a select few on Thursday.

General Growth Properties operates the shops, which sit on city-owned land. As part of the project’s approval from the Coral Gables Commission, Landmark Theaters and the Coral Gables Art Cinema will be able to show the same films, GGP will make an annual $10,000 donation to the Coral Gables Art Cinema for five years, and GGP will promote the nonprofit cinema at a kiosk at Merrick Park.

Landmark, which has 56 locations across the country, built out its space on the west side of the mall, between Crate & Barrel and Neiman Marcus.

It joins a growing trend of luxury movie theaters that are sweeping the country. In South Florida, Cinemex, CineBistro, iPic Theaters, and Cinépolis are among them. — Katherine Kallergis and Sean Stewart-Muniz
