South Florida has nation’s largest share of home owners who pay association fees

Trulia reported that the percentage of home owners who pay fees to home owners associations (HOAs) is higher in South Florida than in any other U.S. metropolitan area. In top-ranked Broward County, 32.5 percent of home owners pay HOA fees, followed by 29.8 percent in Palm Beach County and 27.6 percent in third-ranked Miami-Dade County.

In 2015, Trulia found that fewer than 5 percent of home owners paid HOA fees in such metro areas as Charlotte, Dallas, Kansas City and Sacramento. Trulia, an online residential real estate listings service, also reported that HOA fees increased from 2005 to 2014 by 32 percent, faster than the 15 percent increase in the median price of a U.S. home over the same period.
