Business owners, residents and city officials gathered Friday to celebrate thee completion of the first phase of a streetscape construction project in the Miracle Mile corridor of Coral Gables.

Work on a two-block stretch of Miracle Mile from Galiano Street to Salzedo Street is complete and features widened sidewalks with new granite tiles, plus new trees and street lights.

Eddie Snow, who owns a jewelry business on that two-block stretch of Miracle Mile, told the Miami Herald that the streetscape construction project kept customers away but may bring some back, now that it’s complete.

The streetscape project is now shifting from the south side of Miracle Mile to the north side and is expected to be substantially complete by early next year. The delayed project had been scheduled for completion this year by August.

The project also encompasses the transformation of part of Giralda Avenue to a pedestrian-only plaza, which is expected to be completed next month. [Miami Herald] Mike Seemuth
