Online retailer Amazon plans to build an 850,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Lake Nona, a master-planned development in Orlando.

Seattle-based Amazon bought the site of the construction project just south of Orlando International Airport from Tavistock Development Company for $26.9 million.

Infrastructure work and roadway improvements for the Amazon project began last week near the site of the project in Lake Nona at the intersection of Boggy Creek Road and Jeff Fuqua Boulevard.

Tavistock and Orange County together have advanced plans to expand Boggy Creek Road to accommodate the Amazon development.

Tavistock is working on two other major developments at Lake Nona, a campus for the United States Tennis Association and a training center for accounting firm KPMG.

Since acquiring the land for its Lake Nona community in southeast Orlando, Tavistock has worked with government to advance key infrastructure projects in area, including construction of the interchange of Lake Nona Boulevard and State Road 417 and an expansion of Narcoossee Road.
