Fort Lauderdale tech company’s HQ hit by Hurricane Irma

The 5k sf building stands roofless, with its inside damp from water exposure

The headquarters of tech firm .CLUB Domains in Fort Lauderdale took a major blow from Hurricane Irma.

The 5,168-square-foot building at 701 North Andrews Avenue stands roofless, with its inside damp from damaging water exposure, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

The company paid $900,000 for the site in January. It had plans to renovate the building through the Fort Lauderdale Northwest-Profresso-Flagler Heights Community Redevelopment Agency. The building would be turned into a headquarters and incubator space for more startups in 2018, with amenities like an audio studio for podcasts, and a kitchen.

Executives at .CLUB told the South Florida Business Journal that the company did not purchase windstorm insurance for the building, but that they have been in touch with the city about speeding up the rebuilding process.

“It’s a great concept for the community, a tech incubator and accelerator to help startups in that neighborhood,” Campbell told the Business Journal.

Hurricane Irma destroyed roughly 25 percent of homes in the Florida Keys, and caused about $40 billion worth of insured industry losses in the United States, according to an estimate from catastrophe modeling firm AIR Worldwide. [SFBJ] – Amanda Rabines
