A developer won final approval to build 86 Bradenton-area houses designed to generate as much solar power as they use, or more, and furnished with a Tesla electric car.

Manatee County commissioners approved plans by Pearl Homes to build the so-called “zero energy” houses with solar-panel rooftops and battery storage units at the company’s Hunters Point Resort & Marina.

The development in Cortez, a peninsular village just east of the Bradenton Beach barrier island, will include 62 lodge-style houses designed as extended-stay rentals, 24 houses with as much as 1,450 square feet of living space, and a private marina with 48 slips.

The marina at Hunters Point also will feature a bistro, an alternative-energy powered water taxi, and a community amenity center designed to make efficient use of energy and water.

Each Hunters Point house will come with a rooftop covered with photovoltaic panels, a battery system that stores solar power overnight, an electric car charging station, and an electricity-powered Tesla car.
