Tri-Rail operator selects site for second train station in Boca Raton

Pending a purchase of the 2.12-acre site from Crocker Partners, the city's second Tri-Rail station could open in 2023 at NW 19 Street and Military Trail

The transportation authority that runs the Tri-Rail passenger train service announced plans to build a second Tri-Rail station in Boca Raton.

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) would spend an estimated $17 million to acquire the land and build the station at Northwest 19 Street and Military Trail.

Tri-Rail has a station farther north at 680 Yamato Road, the busiest station in the Tri-Rail corridor, which lies west of Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County, Broward and Miami-Dade.

Pending an acquisition of the land, SFRTA plans to start building its second Tri-Rail station in the 2022 and to open it in 2023.

Crocker Partners owns the 2.12-acre site that SFRTA selected. The land is valued at $1.16 million, according to the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser.

Crocker filed a lawsuit against the city of Boca Raton in May, alleging the municipal government delayed the company’s development of a mixed-use project called Midtown Boca, which would include as many as 2,500 residential units.

Angelo Bianco, a partner of Crocker, told the Sun-Sentinel that the city wanted to determine the maximum number of residences at Midtown Boca after SFRTA confirmed whether it would build a second Tri-Rail station in Boca Raton. [Sun-Sentinel] – Mike Seemuth
