Ocala-area land listed for sale includes country club that just closed

More than 1,200 acres in the Ocala area were listed for sale after a pricey country club on the property abruptly closed.
The potential seller may be billionaire Frank Stronach, whose investments include ownership of Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino in Hallandale Beach.
The Tampa office of brokerage firm Colliers International advertised the listing for the land, including the country club, without an asking price.
The Ocala Star-Banner newspaper also reported that a representative of Colliers said he was unauthorized to discuss the listing.
Stronach, who made his fortune in the Canadian auto parts manufacturing business in Canada, acquired the 1,275-acre property for more than $17 million in 2008. Stronach, the largest land owner in Marion County, made his fortune in the Canadian auto parts industry.
The property listed for sale includes the 288-acre Adena Golf & Country Club and its three-year-old golf course, which reportedly cost $50 million to build. Regular memberships cost $12,400 a year. The country club closed in July.
The listing held by Colliers includes three parcels, including the golf course and adjacent land entitled for construction of as many as 120 homes.
According to the Marion County Property Appraiser’s Office, the most recent appraisal of the property is $17.8 million. The 1,275 acres are in northeastern Marion County, near the intersection of County Road 326 and U.S. 441. [Ocala Star-Banner] – Mike Seemuth
