Signature amenity at Space Coast hotel will be a rocket-launch viewing lounge

The fifth-floor, launch-viewing lounge will be part of a Hyatt Place that will be closer than any other hotel to the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral

A Hyatt Place near a causeway leading to the Kennedy Space Center will feature a pool and other typical amenities, plus an unusual one: a fifth-floor lounge to watch rocket launches.

When it opens in the fall of 2019, the 118-room property in Titusville will be closer than any other hotel to the Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, about 10 minutes away by car.

The launch-viewing lounge will have space for about 20 people and will be available for private parties, according to Carrie Hillenbrandt, senior vice president of BBL Hospitality, the company behind the hotel development.

Launch activity in Florida’s Space Coast region has surged in recent years as private spacecraft companies move into the area, including Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin.

Michael Gaich, whose company sold the 6.5-acre site of the Hyatt Place development, told the Orlando Sentinel that the hotel’s launch-viewing lounge will be a “tremendous attraction to visitors at KSC.”
