Seven-acre, mixed-use development in Coral Gables advances to construction phase

The development group behind The Plaza Coral Gables is linked to the family behind the Jose Cuervo spirits business

The developers held a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for The Plaza Coral Gables, a seven-acre mixed-use development on Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

Agave Ponce, LLC is the company behind the 2.25 million-square-foot development with offices, retail stores, restaurants and residences, plus a 242-key hotel and 2,050 parking spaces. CallisonRTKL created the architectural design of the development, a LEED-ND certified project.

Agave Ponce is a subsidiary of Agave Holdings, LLC, a privately owned commercial real estate firm the operates in the United States and Mexico. The Agave group includes members of the family behind the Jose Cuervo spirits business.

The ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony Thursday followed the start of construction work at the site of The Plaza Coral Gables by general contractor Coastal-Tishman Construction, which is building office and retail space and a residential tower on the site’s north parcel.

Participants in the ceremonial event included Coral Gables Mayor Raul Valdes-Fauli, three city commissioners and the interim city manager.

Blanca Commercial Real Estate is handling leases of office space at The Plaza Coral Gables, and Koniver Stern Group is handling retail leases. – Mike Seemuth
