Robert Ortberg, chairman, CEO and president of the publicly traded aviation electronics company Rockwell Collins, just landed a home in West Palm Beach.

Property records show Robert and his wife Valerie bought the 5,900-square-foot house at 5615 South Flagler Drive for a little more than $5 million through revocable trust in their names. The trade breaks down to about $850 per square foot.

The seller is Hilary Grinker Musser, who owns an eponymous luxury interior design firm in Palm Beach. Records show Musser bought the half-acre property for $2.97 million in 2010. The six-bedroom, eight-bathroom home features impact glass, a grand entry staircase and a deep water dock with a boat lift.

Sotheby’s International Realty’s Todd Peter had the $5.4 million listing since the beginning of the year. The house previously had been on and off the market with other agents, he said. Sabra Kirkpatrick with Brown Harris Stevens brought the buyer.

In September, United Technologies Corp. announced it would acquire Rockwell Collins in a deal valued at $23 billion. Though certain conditions must still be met, the acquisition would be the largest in aerospace history, according to CNBC.

Ortberg joins a number of aviation executives who live or have lived in Palm Beach County, including Robert Hammond, CEO of the PartsBase, a Boca Raton-based company that provides an international database of parts for aviation, defense and aerospace industries.
