Landmark resort in the Keys that Hurricane Irma closed is set to reopen

The Post Card Inn Beach Resort and Marina, formerly known as Holiday Isle, will reopen next week after Hurricane Irma shattered and shut down the landmark property in Islamorada in September 2017.

Located at Mile Marker 84 in the Florida Keys, the Post Card Inn had extensive damage due to the storm surge from Hurricane Irma, which made U.S. landfall Sept. 10, 2017, on Cudjoe Key at Mile Marker 20.

The repaired and renovated Post Card Inn will open to guests on Friday with 151 guest rooms, suites and cottages and an 81-slip marina. The 15-acre property will reopen with new features including the Ciao Hound Italian Kitchen and Bar and a swim-up bar called Kokomos.

The Post Card Inn is still known locally as Holiday Isle, an iconic Keys resort that opened in 1951 and reportedly invented the rum runner cocktail.

The Carlyle Group paid an undisclosed price in 2014 to acquire the Post Card Inn together with the Las Siesta Resort for an undisclosed price.

Starwood Capital of Greenwich, Connecticut, bought Holiday Isle in 2009 for $11 million and renamed it Post Card Inn after repositioning the property as a destination for family vacations.

Investors who planned to turn the resort into a condo-hotel bought in for $98 million in the early 2000s, but project was a failure. [Miami Herald] – Mike Seemuth
