For wealthy vegans who prefer animal-free food and furnishings, a new luxury penthouse for sale in London may be the ideal habitat.

The vegan penthouse in West London has an asking price of £4.95 million ($6.5 million) that includes the cost of furnishings with vegan alternatives to such materials as suede and leather.

Ethical designer Itala Santos also furnished the penthouse with pillows, bedding and upholstery made without silk, wool, mohair or feather down.

“There are so many wonderful alternative materials,” Santos told The Telegraph. “We look beyond the standard suppliers and use only products that are made in the United Kingdom, so it’s easier to control.”

Santos acknowledged that the vegan furnishings of the penthouse may not be a major motivation for potential buyers of the penthouse, but said, “I believe strongly in being ethical about the way you do things and to marry that with great design.”

At its Bankside location in London, Hilton Hotels last month announced its first all-vegan suite. It has a mini-refrigerator packed with vegan snacks, a plant-based menu for room service, and animal-free cleaning and beauty products. [VegNews]Mike Seemuth
