UPDATED, Dec. 25, 12:15 p.m.: Spirit Airlines closed on the future site of its new corporate headquarters in Dania Beach for $32 million.

The budget airline announced in October it was moving its corporate headquarters from Miramar to Dania Pointe, a 102-acre mixed-use project in Dania Beach. Kimco Realty sold the 131,296-square-foot property to Spirit.

Spirit’s new headquarters, projected to cost $250 million, will be just south of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International. It will span up to 500,000 square feet and will hold the company’s corporate offices and a crew training facility equipped with flight simulators.

Spirit may also build a residential component. The company plans to build an apartment building solely for employees and trainees near the site of its planned headquarters.

Spirit bills itself as the no-frills airline, offering passengers cheaper flights in exchange for fewer amenities than other airlines offer.

In the past seven years, Spirit has expanded its fleet from 35 jets to nearly 140, and expects to operate nearly 300 jets by the mid-2020s.

Dania Pointe plans to feature 800,000 square feet of open-air retail space, 500,000 square feet of Class A office space, more than 1,000 apartment and condo units and a dual-branded Marriott hotel.
