Transportation exec buys Boca home for $12M

A transportation executive bought a waterfront mansion in Boca Raton’s Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club for $11.5 million, amid the city’s hot high-end residential market.

Harold V. Groome Jr., the chairman of Groome Transportation, purchased the 9,028-square-foot home at 484 South Maya Palm Drive for $1,273 per square foot, records show. Thomas and Toni Mendiburu sold the property.

The home was built in 2018 and has six bedrooms and six bathrooms. The property has 131 feet of frontage on the Grand Canal.

Groome Transportation provides airport shuttle services at airports across the country.

Thomas Mendibur co-founded the IT company HighPoint. He purchased the land to build the home in 2015 for $4.74 million, records show.

Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club is a gated community that has some of the most expensive homes in Boca Raton. It features a yacht club, pool, sports court, entertainment patio and marina, fitness center and tennis courts.

In September, Michael and Michelle Hagerty, whose family owned White Rock Distilleries, bought a waterfront estate at 324 East Coconut Palm Road for $6.2 million. Also in September, a group of executives tied to a West Palm Beach transportation company bought a 9,203-square-foot house at 300 East Key Palm Road in the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club for $12.1 million.
