A residential agent with ties to Miami and New York is joining Compass, The Real Deal has learned.

Joe Azar and his team joined Compass. Azar, who worked for NRT’s Citi Habitats in New York, was most recently an associate broker and director of leasing at RelatedISG International Realty. He moved to South Florida in 2017.

In South Florida, Azar has worked on projects that include Property Markets Group’s X Miami and the Richman Group’s blu27. He said he’s closed over 300 apartment leases in three years. In addition to rentals, Azar also handles residential sales. His listings include a townhouse at 3174 Mary Street in Coconut Grove, asking $600,000.

The Azar Team includes his sister, Renee Azar, who is based in New York City. In Miami, agents Jorel Garcia and Patricia Diez and two administrative assistants are on his team. Azar is licensed in both cities, which he said is why he was looking to join a national brokerage like Compass “to be under one umbrella.”

Craig Studnicky, principal and owner of RelatedISG, said he was disappointed that Azar left his firm. “He’s a real pro, which is why Compass poached him from us. … I made it very to clear to Joe that the doors are always open for him to return,” Studnicky said.

Compass has been bringing on agents and teams throughout South Florida. In December, Coral Gables agent Jo-Ann Forster joined the Softbank-backed brokerage, bringing her 14-person team from One Sotheby’s International Realty.

Other recent additions include Fort Lauderdale agents Tim Elmes, previously with Coldwell Banker, and Andy Ziffer, previously with LauderdaleONE Luxury Real Estate.
