Ahead of Super Bowl LIV, here’s where pro football stars call home in South Florida

Football players and coaches are flocking to the Magic City ahead of Super Bowl LIV, but a number of the NFL elite already have owned homes here.

Even longtime rivals of the Miami Dolphins – like former New England Patriots tight end Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski – have chosen to take up residence in Miami. A number of players have also sold their homes, including three-time Super Bowl champ Tajuan “Ty” Law, ex-Dolphin Ndamukong Suh, two-time Super Bowl winner Jeremy Shockey, and former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis, who sold his Davie mansion for $915,000 in December.

Some players have focused on real estate investment in their post-NFL careers, like Elvis Dumervil, who played for the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers and is now an active multifamily investor in North Miami.

Here’s a look at where some of the top pro football players – both retired and current – currently own homes in South Florida:

Don Shula

Dolphin great Don Shula, who led the team during the 1972 perfect season and through two Super Bowl championships as head coach, owns a waterfront estate in exclusive Indian Creek Village. He also picked up a luxury condo at the Four Seasons Residences at The Surf Club in Surfside in December, paying $5.5 million for a four-bedroom, 3,925-square-foot condo.

Shula, who played for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Colts, and Washington Redskins, coached the Fins from 1970 to 1995. During that time, the team became the first to execute a perfect regular season in the NFL and the only one to go undefeated in the regular and postseason.

Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski

Gronkowski, a three-time Super Bowl champ who spent his entire professional career playing for the Patriots, paid $1.7 million in July for a four-bedroom, 3,850-square-foot unit at Marquis Miami, at 1100 Biscayne Boulevard. The Gronk, who’s considered one of the best tight ends of all time, announced his retirement from the NFL in May, selling his Boston apartment and heading down to Miami.

DeVante Parker

Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker chose Davie as his home base. Property records show Parker paid $1.16 million for the lakefront five-bedroom, 5,010-square-foot home at 1781 Southwest 131st Terrace in June. Parker was drafted by the Dolphins in 2015 and is signed on to play with the team through the 2020 season.

Frank Gore

Buffalo Bills running back and native Miamian Frank Gore owns a mansion in Davie that he’s trying to sell.

Gore, a University of Miami graduate and ex-Dolphin, owns the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 12535 Stoneway Court, which is listed for $1.8 million with Kim Knausz of One Sotheby’s International Realty. According to Realtor.com, the house may have a buyer. It’s marked as “contingent,” which means that some contingencies, such as a home inspection, must be met before the deal can close.

His 6,743-square-foot house features a home theater with a game room and bar, oversized master suite, summer kitchen, half basketball court and a pool and spa overlooking a lake.
Property records show Gore paid about $1 million for the home in 2014. It was built in 2006 on a roughly half-acre lot.

This weekend, he’ll be watching his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, play for the championship title. Gore has also played for the Indianapolis Colts.

Kenny Stills

Ex-Dolphin Kenny Stills, who was traded to the Houston Texans following a disagreement with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross over a fundraiser for President Trump, has his South Florida home on the market. Stills played for the Dolphins between 2015 and 2019.

The wide receiver has his waterfront Fort Lauderdale house at 2401 Southwest 26th Avenue on the market for $2.8 million with Knausz of One Sotheby’s.

Nick Bosa

San Francisco 49ers defensive end and Fort Lauderdale native Nick Bosa will have a homecoming of sorts this weekend when he plays against the Kansas City Chiefs for the championship. Bosa signed a four-year, $33.55 million contract with the 49ers last summer.

Days later, he announced he was paying $1.24 million for a 2,500-square-foot unit at 30 Thirty North Ocean, a 24-unit boutique condo development in Fort Lauderdale. His mother, Cheryl Bosa of Engel & Völkers Fort Lauderdale, represented him in the deal.

Dan Marino

Retired Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino has owned a number of homes in South Florida. Property records show the former NFL player, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005, still owns the five-bedroom, 3,838-square-foot house at 1014 Trailmore Lane in Weston, via an LLC.

Records show the company paid $625,000 for the property in 2014. Marino was reportedly set to purchase a unit at Auberge Beach Residences & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, and his foundation owns the property at 400 North Andrews Avenue, also in Fort Lauderdale.

Kim Bokamper

Former Dolphin linebacker and defensive end Kim Bokamper listed his Plantation home for $1.15 million in November, and put it under contract shortly after. Bokamper, who got into broadcasting after retiring from the NFL in the 1980s, reportedly plans to buy a new golf club home farther east, in Fort Lauderdale.

His home at 301 Northwest 127th Avenue is listed with Dondi Hopkins of Compass.

T.Y. Hilton

Miami native and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Eugene Marquis “T. Y.” Hilton is keeping a home in Doral.

Hilton, who played college football at Florida International University, paid $1.2 million for the five-bedroom, 3,902-square-foot house at 8292 Northwest 33rd Terrace in 2015, records show.

Hilton attended Miami Springs Senior High School.

Warren Sapp

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders player Warren Sapp lives in a beachfront condo in Hollywood.

The retired defensive tackle played for the University of Miami before joining the NFL, and later became an analyst for the NFL network. Property records show Sapp paid $910,000 in 2007 for his two-bedroom, 2,115-square-foot condo at 3101 South Ocean Drive.

Sapp earned a ring in 2002 when the Buccaneers beat the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Antonio Brown

The controversial Antonio Brown, currently a free agent, owns a 12-bedroom mansion at 3600 Estate Oak Circle in Hollywood. Brown was recently charged with battery, burglary and criminal mischief after allegedly assaulting a moving-truck driver parked in front of his home.

Records show he paid $6.6 million for the Hollywood estate. Brown was raised in Liberty City. In September, the wide receiver said he would no longer play in the NFL. Brown was released from the New England Patriots after one game amid allegations of sexually assaulting his former trainer. The Oakland Raiders also cut him, and before that Brown played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jason Taylor

Former Miami Dolphins defensive end and outside linebacker Jason Taylor resides in Plantation. Taylor, also a Pro Football Hall of Famer, owns the five-bedroom, 4,352-square-foot home at 11042 Blue Palm Street, according to property records.

In 2017, Taylor sold his mansion at 2980 Paddock Road in Weston for $3.2 million, marking a loss for the NFL Hall of Famer, who purchased the 10,247-square-foot house for $3.6 million in 2006.

Taylor played for the Dolphins between 1997 and 2007, in 2009 and in 2011. He also played for the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets.
