Florida Grand Opera to sell downtown Miami land

The Doral-based Florida Grand Opera has eschewed plans to build a new headquarters on a plot of land it owns in downtown Miami and will move to sell the property, Miami Today reported.

The opera purchased 46,000 square feet at Northwest Second Avenue and 14th Street in 1995, and initially planned to build a headquarters below a residential tower with a ground floor of retail and parking. However after many fits and starts, the project died and with the recession the opera decided it didn’t make fiscal sense to build new headquarters. It will remain at 8390 NW 25th Street.

The property will hit the market in the next couple of weeks and is expected to draw interest thanks to its proximity to the Omni area, according to Miami Today. [Miami Today]
