Calif.-based designer selected for high-production film studio in Miami

Plans for the Miami Entertainment Center, meant to lure major film projects to the area, have been laid out now that the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency has selected a design consultant.

Miami Today reported that California-based Bastien & Associates beat out several local firms to design the film studio at 29 NW 13th Street, in part because of its experience working with Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal Studios.

Bastien has $1.1 million from the City of Miami commission, which serves as the agency’s board, to lay out plans for the 89,000-square-foot building projected to cost $10.6 million. If funding goes as planned it would have two sound stages of at least 10,000 square feet, office space, a motion capture stage and a special green stage for digital imaging.

The center should bring both high-production film jobs to the area and profits to the city. Even if it were only rented at 25 percent capacity for the $2,000 daily rental fee, the city would earn nearly $40,000 in profit, according to Miami Today. [Miami Today]
