Florida Senate committee approves version of fast foreclosure bill

The Florida Senate Judiciary Committee has voted 5 to 2 to approve a bill aimed at speeding up the foreclosure process, the Palm Beach Post reported. The bill would shorten the time banks have to go after homeowners for debt, and significantly speeds up foreclosures where the homeowner abandons the property. Some judges are concerned, however, that the bill is not necessary. “The judges are saying that they can easily move these cases along but when they come in the attorneys aren’t prepared,” said Sen. David Simmons. “It’s the attorneys the banks hired that aren’t doing the jobs they need to do to move the cases along.” [Palm Beach Post]
