Shoe mogul Donald J. Pliner sells Star Island manse for $14.3 million

Footwear mogul Donald J. Pliner and his wife Lisa have closed on the sale of their home at 29 Star Island Drive for $14.33 million to a Miami-based buyer, The Real Deal has learned. The 10,160-square-foot home has eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms, along with a rooftop terrace.

“I think it was the best home that was available on Star Island,” said Coldwell Banker’s Jill Eber, who represented the seller with partner Jill Hertzberg. “All the really good properties are being sold now.”

The Pliners purchased the home, which was built in 2000, for $11.8 million in 2004.

Jorge Uribe, a senior vice president at One Sotheby’s International Realty who represented the buyer, would only say the purchaser was from Miami.

The home had a market value of $7.42 million in 2011, according to data from the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser’s office.

It is the 11th sale on Star Island since 2011, according to Hertzberg and Eber, known as “The Jills,” and the latest in a flurry of sales in the area.

The home had previously been listed for $19.99 million and was sold within a week, Eber said.

The most recent deals on Star Island, also handled by the duo, were a pair of lots sold by New York investor Steven Witkoff, each of which transacted for $8.5 million, as The Real Deal first reported.

Those lots sold to two separate South American buyers in March and April.

“I think people really want to be in these luxury properties in these locations, and there’s only so much inventory,” Eber said. “Now we’ve got a lot of really good buyers.”
