Chabad seeks Palm Beach synagogue

Palm Beach’s Town Council will consider a proposal by Chabad to build a 40-seat synagogue on 361 South County Road, the Palm Beach Daily News reported. The project, which has met opposition based on potential traffic and parking concerns, would also include a day care facility. “Jewish day care fulfills a basic need for young Jewish families living on our island,” Palm Beach resident Howard Amster wrote in a letter supporting the project. The council has received seven letters either or for or against the proposal. “I can’t think of a worse place to do something like this ,” wrote Peruvian Avenue resident Henry Homes. “No parking, loading zone on a curve, next to a fire station, across from Town Hall, noise from religious ceremonies.” The hearing will focus on applications for an exception to zoning laws, which would allow the project at the Via Rosa building.  [Palm Beach Daily News]
