The Palm Beach County Commission unanimously approved a land-use change that officially allows the Burt Reynolds Ranch in Jupiter Farms to hold a development of 30 homes, instead of 15.

Residential builder K. Hovnanian Homes received an initial green light to double the number of houses last month from the Palm Beach County Planning Commission, as previously reported. At the time, only 15 residences were allowed on the 153-acre Jupiter Farms Road property.

The county’s school district purchased the ranch from the popular actor for nearly $4 million in 1999 with original plans to construct a middle school on the property. It agreed in April to sell the ranch to K. Hovnanian for $5 million. The sale would close once the county approves and land-use and zoning changes. [Palm Beach Post]Mark Maurer
