A Fort Lauderdale area dominated by warehouses could be on the verge of a transformation similar to Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood.

Stakeholders in the area, which is located just outside of downtown Fort Lauderdale, say it would be ideal for art galleries, trendy restaurants and boutique stores, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Many of the existing buildings in the area are up to 30 years old and could use substantial upgrades. Those buildings are primarily located near a rail line between Sistrunk and Sunrise boulevards.

Larry Clemons, owner of an art gallery in the area, told the Sun-Sentinel a parking requirement reduction is necessary to attract new businesses. The city has already given initial approval to a parking space reduction for the area east and south of the railroad tracks. [Sun-Sentinel]Eric Kalis
