Construction is booming in Palm Beach Gardens

While Miami gets most of the attention for its bustling construction activity, Palm Beach Gardens is experiencing its own boom.

City planners and council members are being inundated with projects ranging from large housing developments to church expansions and the addition of a new microbrewery. Throw in a proposal to redevelop the 8-acre Panama Hattie’s restaurant property along the Intracoastal Waterway and you have the makings of some long nights for the Palm Beach Gardens City Council.

The Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board  is scheduled to address the annexation of the Panama Hattie’s site for proposed redevelopment as an infill, mixed-use project during Tuesday’s meeting.

Elsewhere in Palm Beach Gardens, the success of the Scripps biomedical research campus led to the approval of a 360-home development nearby and plans for another 341 apartments off Central Boulevard are in the works, according to the Palm Beach Post. A redrawn 4,760-acre Avenir community in the far western part of the city is close to six weeks away from a council vote.

“There’s a lot of very interesting projects going on right now in the east and west,” Natalie Crowley, director of planning and zoning, told the Post. [Palm Beach Post]Andy Kent
