Uber signed a lease for its new Miami headquarters in Brickell, The Real Deal has learned.

Despite operating illegally in Miami-Dade County, the popular transportation app will lease 9,333 square feet in Brickell City Tower, a 33-story office building at 80 Southwest Eighth Street. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.

Danet Linares and Alexander Cahlin of Blanca Commercial Real Estate represented the landlord. Shay Pope of CBRE represented Uber, which is reportedly worth $50 billion.

Uber has been a tenant of the building for a few months while the company’s permanent space is built out, Linares told TRD. Walkability and its proximity to I-95 and the Metrorail were among the building’s selling points, she said.

“Brickell City Tower enjoys one of the most desirable locations in the urban core – right across the street from the highly anticipated Brickell City Centre development, and the already vibrant Mary Brickell Village,” Danet Linares, vice chairman of Blanca Commercial Real Estate, said in a statement. “Additionally, tenants at Brickell City Tower will be connected to the Underline, the land below Miami’s Metrorail which is now planned to be converted into a 10-mile linear park and urban trail.”

Tenants of the 287,000-square-foot tower include Verizon, Lamex Agrifoods, Inlingua Language School, Chase Bank, Moye restaurant, the Beacon Council and the Consulate General of Japan. The South Florida Business Journal will also lease space in the building.
