Alloy Development is a real estate development company with a focus on Brooklyn conversions. The firm was founded in 2006 and it has since successfully developed more than 800,000 square feet of commercial and residential space. Alloy made its name in the DUMBO neighborhood, particularly with a 42-unit luxury condo on One John Street (where it build an annex of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in an attempt to lure families) and the successful conversion in 2012 of 192 Water Street into lofts. Alloy parlayed that conversion to develop the former warehouses on Brooklyn’s Water Street into the eight-story loft DUMBO Townhouses, which quickly sold out. In 2016 the firm once again decided to branch out into a new neighborhood, paying $2.8 million for a site in Gowanus, where it would build its new headquarters (relocating from DUMBO, where it had set up shop for a decade). The move has caused Alloy some snags, including a plan by New York City to seize some of the firm’s land in that neighborhood to build sewage tanks.
